New products and names

Not every idea deserves a name of its own. This is where it is decided when to create a brand, how to name it and how it relates to Nitente.

Does it deserve its own brand?

Answer honestly. It is a decision guide, not a calculator: the last word belongs to the brand owner.

The audience is different from that of the current products.
It can be used or purchased separately.
It needs its own website, voice and support.
It serves a different trade or solves a different problem.
It can change its name or shut down without affecting the company.

Criteria for naming a product

Family
Stones and minerals: Spinelle, Heliodore and Grenat are gems. A new product continues the series.
Form
One word, two to four syllables, that a Spanish speaker can read and say without explanation.
Spelling
No accents, ñ or hyphens, so it works in domains and email addresses.
Meaning
The origin of the name can be explained in one line and is true.
Tone
The name does not describe the trade or carry generic suffixes such as “soft” or “plus”.
Availability
Before adopting it, the domain and trademarks are checked with the help of an intellectual property agent. Until then the name is provisional (like Grenat).

Color of the new product

A single hue
Each product has one brand color with its light and dark versions.
Distance
Different from the existing ones: at least 40° of hue separation from Ember, Solar and the wine red of Grenat.
Contrast
It passes 4.5:1 as text on its background, or it is used only as an accent.
Never
White, black or gray: they belong to Nitente.

Product startup checklist

  1. Provisional name and a one-line description.
  2. Own symbol built with the same logic of light, or a justification of why not.
  3. Color and scale, with verified contrast.
  4. Reflect icon with the five layer steps.
  5. Product manual, even if it is version 0.x.
  6. Seal decision: where it goes and where it doesn't.
  7. Honest status text: “in validation” while it is still an idea.
